Sleepy Hollow may enter creepy territory with a new romance story line

Messing with each other: Check. Trusting each other with their lives: Check. Nope, we're not talking about Abbie and Ichabod; we're talking about Joe and Jenny on this season of Sleepy Hollow.

Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Nicole Beharie) have had the past few seasons to work on their bond as witnesses and now that Ichabod's wife, Katrina, is gone, speculation is high that this could mean the shippers will finally get their wish to see the two friends become more than just working buddies.

But just as Abbie and Ichabod are figuring things out after a couple months apart, a new power couple might be giving them a run for their money. In the second episode of the new season, Joe (Zach Appelman) and Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) had a few close moments of their own.

They bicker

Abbie's sister and August Corbin's son definitely have that whole fighting thing down, just like Abbie and Ichabod did in the first season. Oh, who are we kidding? They've got bickering down to a science and that's why we love them. Joe and Jenny aren't too shabby at it either.

They're close

Though they may have different reasons for it, each partnership does have its closeness. Abbie and Ichabod have been drawn together by all that they've been through and their bond as witnesses. With Joe and Jenny, their budding closeness comes from basically being raised by the same person.

Jealousy

Again, it doesn't emanate from the same place, but there is jealousy inherent in both couples. For Abbie and Ichabod, it rears its head when anyone tries to come between them for too long. While Joe and Jenny find they still have that sibling rivalry that comes from wanting to be loved by the father figure in their lives.

Romance in the future?

While it's kind of strange to predict romance between Joe and Jenny seeing as they are so much like siblings, we can't deny that it is a possibility. They weren't raised together and have no blood ties at all, so technically there would be nothing wrong with it. Only time will tell if their friendship turns into something that makes the fans ship them as hard as they ship Abbie and Ichabod. Heck, just thinking about them as a couple makes me feel kind of odd, but I know that it still could be possible.

They will always protect each other

We've seen it happen over and over: Abbie and Ichabod will always ride to the rescue for each other. When the wraith nearly had Ichabod on the floor, Abbie didn't hesitate to put herself between them — despite knowing how it might affect her. The moment Jenny realized that Joe was in trouble, she too came for him immediately.

They learn from each other

Abbie and Ichabod are learning lessons from each other seemingly every minute they are together. Whether it's something as simple as the benefits of ordering takeout or the relief that comes from a confession, they are constantly learning. Joe asked Jenny to show him the part of his dad's life that he never knew and it will be interesting to see what lessons he gives her in return.

Showrunner Clifton Campbell told TV Guide that Joe and Jenny are in for a lot of adventure this season, which seems to harken back to the way Ichabod and Abbie's friendship began.

"Jenny and Joe are going to track down a lot of things that are going to help Abbie and Crane, and in doing so really do a deep dive on their past and their connections to each other," he said. If that doesn't sound like Joe and Jenny are set to become another great friendship on this series, we don't know what does.

What do you think of Joe and Jenny partnering up on this season of Sleepy Hollow?
