Selena Gomez's nude photo is worrying all of her fans (PHOTOS)

Sarah grew up in Monterey, CA and now lives in Los Angeles. When she's not writing, you can find her enjoying a good book, fine wine, sunflowers and long walks on the beach.

Do Selena Gomez's naked pics prove she's more like Miley Cyrus than she wants to admit?

Selena Gomez fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of her upcoming album, Revival, but Tuesday they got a tiny preview of the cover art, which left many disappointed instead of excited.

Gomez posted the cover on Instagram to announce that the album officially drops Oct. 9 — and many felt that the stripped-down, nearly-nude photo of the singer was inappropriate.

There were fans who quickly supported Gomez by pointing out to haters that the human body is not something to be ashamed of and that the photo is actually quite tasteful; however, others were not so kind.

Hateful comments ranged from the ever-so-original "slut" and "close your legs" to "ew" and rude musings about Gomez's physical appearance.

While some of Gomez's social media followers were downright mean, like those above, even more expressed feelings of disappointment about the new album cover and drew comparisons to a certain other pop star who has a penchant for posting photos in her birthday suit.

We understand that nudity is not for everyone, but the criticisms about Gomez's artful pose are nothing less than slut-shaming, which is especially sad considering Revival is meant to be the official start of a new era in the performer's life.

But Gomez, who recently caught quite a bit of flak for opening up about ditching her purity ring, is no amateur when it comes to dealing with bullying. She's been the victim of public fat-shaming as well and has responded to online hate with confidence that is inspiring.

This also isn't the first time Gomez fans have been up in arms over images of her. She infuriated many and drew Lolita comparisons for a V magazine cover back at the beginning of 2015.

What do you think of Gomez's new cover art? Is it a sign that she's heading in the wrong direction or are people overreacting?
