While it may seem a little random that Steve Irwin's daughter is back in the spotlight, once you learn more about her you'll realize that she never really left it.
Steve Irwin, aka the Crocodile Hunter, left a lasting impression on his daughter. And even though his stingray death in 2006 would normally scare a child away from pursuing the family wildlife business, Bindi has embraced it in more ways than one. Where her father was the Crocodile Hunter, Bindi has been dubbed the Jungle Girl.
Following her father's death, Irwin cocreated a series of books called Bindi's Wildlife Adventures. The books were published by Random House Australia and focused on teaching young children about wildlife conservation while also providing them with fun stories as they learn how to read.
Aside from starring in her own wildlife-focused series like Bindi's Bootcamp and Bindi, the Jungle Girl, Irwin has also been featured in movies like Return to Nim's Island and Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove. Needless to say, she won't get camera shy.
Her family not only owns the Australian Zoo, they also live there. Of course, Irwin will relocate to Los Angeles for the duration of Dancing with the Stars' filming, so she's really just trading one zoo for another as she enters the big-city life.
Her parents started the Wildlife Warriors nonprofit organization back in 2002, and now Irwin continues to support the effort on her own.
Wildlife Warriors speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. My beautiful parents created our nonprofit organisation, Wildlife Warriors, back in 2002 to raise funds for leading conservation work around the world. Don't expect her to fall for her dancing costar. According to ABC News, Irwin is currently off the market, though her mystery love is unknown.
Irwin also joked that her dad always said, "You can't date 'til you're 40, and he has to be able to swim across our largest crocodile pond before he can go out with you."
We wonder if her beau can hack it.
Irwin had her own dance troupe back in the day called The Jungle Girls, and had danced in kids' fitness videos back in the day. But she isn't sure that talent will translate on the DWTS dance floor.
"It's all about having the courage and strength and, for me, it is something completely different, but I hope that I am able to inspire others in their own lives to seize opportunity and to make a difference and just jump, take the leap, even if it terrifies you," Irwin said, according to Yahoo!
Maybe the best thing Irwin said once she was revealed as the first DWTS Season 21 contestant was, "I just hope my dance partner, whoever it is, is very patient and likes animals, because you never know what I'm going to bring to rehearsal."
