Stephanie Pratt haters accuse her of lying about meth addiction

Public reaction to Stephanie Pratt's shocking drug admission is cruel

Stephanie Pratt made a stunning admission about facing a crippling drug addiction, but some fans are using the opportunity to take her down as a publicity hound.

The former star of The Hills revealed that she started smoking crystal meth as a young teen, and battled depression and an eating disorder on top of it.

"I was 14 or 15 [when I first smoked crystal meth]," she wrote in her upcoming memoir Made in Reality, adding that she started using cocaine around the same time. "I was on the extreme level and addiction developed instantly. [I smoked] probably four times before school, then at snack... probably 12 or 13 times a day.

"I didn't care about anything. I could live or die, I didn't care. I had nothing to get out of bed for, nothing was exciting," she said.

The low point of her addiction came when she was arrested in Hawaii for shoplifting $4000 worth of clothes while under the influence.

"I woke up handcuffed to a hospital bed," she explained. "When I landed back in LA, Mom took me back home and I went upstairs to my old bedroom and I felt so much shame."

A stint in rehab helped her kick her drug habit before joining her brother Spencer on The Hills in 2007, but she then developed bulimia as she struggled to deal with the pressures of Hollywood.

"I lost about six pounds in two weeks, but bulimia made my face very puffy so I freaked out and began going on crazy little diets, like I'd only eat Tic Tacs," she said. She was later arrested in 2009 on DUI charges.

Pratt is finally free of her demons, but some aren't letting her off the hook so easily. In fact, some Twitter users are implying she is lying about her drug use as a publicity stunt for her show Made in Chelsea.

If someone were to lie about something as a way to drum up publicity, we can think of far less career-damaging stories than an intense crystal meth addiction.

But Pratt is ignoring the haters and putting her attention where it is deserved: on her supporters.
