She may only be 17 years old, but Ariel Winter's breast reduction was totally appropriate

Ariel Winter has proved that she truly knows what is best for her own life.

After a long legal fight, she won her emancipation from her emotionally abusive mother. And now she has revealed to Glamour magazine that she decided it was in her best interest to get a breast reduction at the young age of 17.

The Modern Family star was having a difficult time navigating the waters of big-boobdom. She told the magazine, "I was 15 years old with [size] F [breasts]. It's like, 'How do you navigate that?'"

It wasn't like she had much time to learn, either. Her large bust came on quickly. "It really did happen overnight. I remember being in my sister's wedding and being so flat and thinking, 'I just wish I could grow boobs!’ Then I did, overnight."

I'm sure she rues that day now.

She explains that her decision stemmed not just from their size and the strain it was putting on her physically, but also emotionally.

She explained, "I'd have to wear [a] dress that was super tight and form-fitted everywhere because if I didn't, it didn't look good. I didn't really have an option other than to wear fitted clothes. Everyone would [say], 'Why is she dressing so mature? That's so inappropriate for her age!' I understood what they were saying. It's not like I wanted to pick out those inappropriate dresses, it's just that I didn’t really have another choice, or I was going to get ridiculed."

She explains that the ridicule was a strong impetus behind the reduction. She acknowledged that "Internet bullies" would either bully her for her clothing, weight or her breast size. The teenager said, "I definitely seemed confident. I'm an actress, that's what we do. But on the inside, I wasn't feeling so happy."

And even though trolls played a part, she clarified that she definitely did this for herself, not just to mollify keyboard jockeys.

"I got it for myself. I can't even really put into words about how amazing it feels to really feel right."

While Winter hasn't told her biological mother, her on-screen family was extremely supportive as well as pretty funny about the whole situation. She said, "I saw Sofia [Vergara] the other day and she was like, 'Oh my God! I love them! They're great!' and I was like, 'This is hilarious.'"
