Demi Lovato's take on Miley Cyrus' partying isn't what you'd expect

It's totally true, but not for any reason you'd expect.

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, the "Cool for the Summer" singer admitted that there's one thing about Cyrus that she's envied in the past: her partying ways.

"There was a time when I was jealous of people who were able to party," she shared. "For instance, Miley, in her music video 'Can't Stop,' her whole thing was partying and not giving a f***. Part of me was super jealous that I couldn't be like that. I had to look at my life and be like, 'OK, that's just not what you can do. There's no need to be bitter about it.'"

Lovato, who has been to rehab for her drug abuse, has been open with the media about her sobriety in recent years. She also opened up to Cosmo about how both her addiction and her sobriety have affected her relationship with actor Wilmer Valderrama.

"We started dating when I turned 18," she said. "Right after that, I went to rehab. People told him, 'You should probably leave. She's on a spiral, and you're going to be sucked down with it.' But he was like, 'I'm not leaving. This is somebody I really care about.'"

She added, "We relate on a lot of levels. I've seen a lot of shit — shit people don't know about."

And while Lovato and Valderrama have broken up and gotten back together a handful of times during the four years since they first started dating, Lovato admitted to Cosmo that drugs played a part in the rockiness of their relationship and she took the blame for all of the bumps.

"The only times we ever broke up were when I was relapsing, whether it was drugs or in a bad place and rebelling against everybody, not just him," she said.
