With her brash, tell-it-like-it-is personality, Lisa Rinna is very much the embodiment of the classic reality star tag line: you either love her or hate her; there is no in-between. And for Kim Richards, it's definitely the latter. Once the new girl on the block questioned Richards' sobriety on last season's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, that was it — the women were like oil and water. During the final party, though, things seemed to be, well, civil between the two. Now, though, Richards is claiming that she had to call the police on Rinna for threatening her. Yes, seriously.
Last week, Richards sat down with Entertainment Tonight for an interview regarding, what else, her sobriety. The conversation naturally dovetailed into Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. After saying that producers asked her back (even though it was reported that she was fired), Richards started talking smack about the Lisas of RHOBH: Rinna and Vanderpump. In regard to Lisa Vanderpump, Richards simply called her a fake. "She's witty, she's fun, she has a big heart for people she loves, but I think Lisa (Vanderpump) is... she's phony," Richards said. "Sometimes I felt like she was my friend, and you know, I believed her, but in a heartbeat she changes." I'm sure Vanderpump wasn't thrilled to hear what Richards had to say about her, but whatever. Worse things have been said among that group. When the subject of Lisa Rinna came up, though, Kim regaled a pretty unbelievable story. Here's what she had to say:
[Lisa Rinna and I] had made up at that final party. She texted me two days after the final party and I got these messages. I didn't know who it was. It's like, 'Be very careful or I will f***you up,' and I was like, 'Huh, what?' This is days after we're finished. These messages kept coming. No more filming. This was not for the show. I got scared. I called a bodyguard who's a police officer. I said, 'What do I need to do?' He said, 'You need to file a police report.
I don't claim to be president of the Lisa Rinna Fan Club, but what on earth? Unless Richards is leaving out a giant chunk of this story, this really makes no sense. Why would anyone send threatening texts to someone after they made up and were OK with each other? Something else had to have happened. There's something Richards is leaving out here.
From the sound of things, Rinna's supposed text messages to Richards were regarding her husband, Harry Hamlin. At a few points during the season, Richards alluded to having dirt on Rinna and her husband, but never said much beyond that. It kind of seems like Richards was just saying that to make it seem like Hamlin cheated on his wife, but the two women never delved too deeply into that subject publicly.
Unfortunately for Richards, she's lost a decent amount of her credibility. With numerous alcohol relapses recently, arrests, and stints in and out of rehab, she's not exactly a pillar of responsible society right now — which is sad. So, even if she hadn't seemingly left out a big chunk of what exactly happened between her and Rinna, I'm not sure how many people would even believe her in the first place.
Honestly, one of the most annoying things about this story and interview is the fact that the interviewer didn't press her more about this nonsensical story. Andy Cohen never would have let this go. I wish she would have had Richards back up a bit and asked her more questions. Even just a simple, "So, Lisa Rinna sent you threatening text messages out of nowhere?" would have likely produced more answers from Richards. Oh well.
It's still up in the air (according to Richards, at least) if she will be back for another season of Real Housewives. I personally think it's a good idea if she sits this one out and focuses on her sobriety and getting healthy. But if she doesn't, I think we all know one thing for sure: Lisa Rinna will have a diamond-encrusted bone to pick with her costar.
