The just-released photos of the 2-month-old princess showcase her in a gorgeous ivory gown. Members of both the royal family and the Middleton family were in attendance for the event.
Prince Harry is the only one notably absent. According to The Telegraph, he's on a three-month trip in Africa, which began at the end of June, after Kate Middleton and Prince William didn't choose him as a godparent for his new niece. Apparently, he is already so closely related to her that they didn't think he needed the additional honor.
The main family portrait was taken in the drawing room at Sandringham House. It features Kate Middleton and Prince William, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, sitting together on a parlor sofa with the duchess holding Princess Charlotte, and Prince George tucked next to Prince William. Great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II also joined them on the couch with Michael, Pippa, James and Carole Middleton behind them, alongside Prince Charles, Camilla and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The photographer for the event, Mario Testino, shared the family portrait with a sweet message about what an honor it was to be chosen for the occasion.
I AM OVERWHELMED AND HONOURED TO BE CHOSEN TO TAKE THESE PORTRAITS ON THE OCCASION OF PRINCESS CHARLOTTE'S CHRISTENING, TO CARRY ON THE DOCUMENTATION OF THE FAMILY THAT IS THE SOUL OF THIS COUNTRY, A COUNTRY THAT HAS GIVEN ME SO MUCH. ME SIENTO MUY CONMOVIDO Y HONRADO DE HABER SIDO ESCOGIDO PARA TOMAR LOS RETRATOS DE LA PRINCESA CHARLOTTE EN SU BAUTIZO Y ASÍ SEGUIR DOCUMENTANDO A ESTA FAMILIA QUE ES EL ALMA DEL PAIS, UN PAIS QUE ME HA DADO MUCHO.
Prince George's red short and embroidered red shirt mirrored the outfit his father wore to meet his then day-old brother Prince Harry for the first time. Not only did the two share the same outfit, they also share the same hair color and adorably puffy cheeks.
An official statement from Kensington Palace explained, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their whole family had a wonderful day on Sunday and were delighted to share the special occasion with the thousands of people who came to Sandringham. They are very happy to share these photographs and hope that everyone enjoys them as much as they do."
