Fear the Walking Dead: What you need to know about wayward son Nick (VIDEO)

Hailing from a Georgia town that redefines small, Sabienna started reading at a young age as a means of vacationing from the quaintness of her surroundings. A short time after she discovered her love of books, she started writing and has...

Fear the Walking Dead's latest teaser introduces its first character

Fear the Walking Dead is getting closer, walker fans! AMC has unleashed a teaser introducing one of the show's main protagonists and he's already on the run.

Meet Nick. He's one of the main characters in Fear the Walking Dead, a companion series to AMC's successful walker-infused mother ship. In the first teaser featuring what looks like actual footage of one of the show's major characters, Nick (Frank Dillane) is majorly freaked out by something. Is it a walker? My guess is no. Given his general state of undress, it looks more like Nick got caught with his pants down by an angry father/boyfriend/drug dealer.

More: The Walking Dead has a lot of questions to answer in Season 6

Unlike The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead will focus on the start of the zombie apocalypse and center on one particular family. Nick is the proverbial black sheep of the family: He's a college dropout with a drug problem who has involved himself with some less than savory people and just generally screwed up his life. Luckily for him, the one thing an apocalypse can offer is a clean slate. While Nick is running scared in the teaser, perhaps a siege of walkers will bring out a whole new side to him.

In addition to Nick, Fear the Walking Dead also features his single mother, Madison, and overachieving sister Alicia. The family will be joined by Madison's boyfriend Travis and Alicia's boyfriend Matt. The companion show will have none of The Walking Dead's nature-infused visuals since it is set on the West Coast, giving it a more urban feel as the walkers begin to rise.

More: Morgan is back, but is that really good news?

Fear the Walking Dead premieres August 2015 on AMC.

What do you think Nick is running from? Is he hero material?
