Sandra Bullock's latest speech is about persisting when your life's 'in the shitter'

Sandra Bullock honored Warner Bros. marketing chief Sue Kroll on Tuesday with some powerful words all women can appreciate.

The Oscar-winning actress managed to keep things light and hilarious in her speech at the Tiffany & Co.-sponsored Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards event while also sharing a seriously important message.

"There's so much power in this room right now," Bullock said. "We're all going to be on the same menstrual cycle after tonight."

Guests included Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts.

"A shift is going to happen to a handful of us," Bullock continued. "Not just several dozen of us but to all of us — that is what happens when there is so much power in one room. So much female power in one room. Sometimes there's an über-powerful female who's responsible for this shift, someone who is stronger and more powerful than the rest of us. The instigator or the lady time-shifter, as I like to call it. I've had the honor of working aside such a lady for many, many years. For many, many years I had no idea what she did for a living. She never offered and I never asked. I'm an actress. We don't care what anyone else does for a living."

But Bullock also got more personal, referring to her divorce from her cheating ex-husband Jesse James back in 2010 with an anecdote about how Kroll helped her through that time in her life.

"A few years ago, when a project might not have gone the way I hoped, she never gave me that look of, 'Oh honey, your personal life is in the shitter, now your career needs to evolve.'

"No, no," the actress added. "She just avoided eye contact with me. And then, she adjusted the schedule, which is what this woman does. And she's greatly responsible for the film's success. I saw her being tactful and calm when others are not. I saw her be a partner when most are afraid to break away from the status quo. Rather than call attention to herself, she calls attention to others — the end result being millions of dollars in [the] box office for Warner Bros."

And Bullock hopes other women will follow Kroll's example.

"She knows, that as women, if we do not reach out a hand for our fellow women on the steep climb [up] the corporate ladder, we will never enjoy the success. Without sisters by our side, who would understand?"
