And she doesn't care that it is a woman either. In fact, she seems a bit confused why people think she should or would care! After a high-profile, long-term relationship with Twilight costar Robert Pattinson, and an even more high-profile breakup, Stewart has been sighted lately getting more than chummy with her personal assistant, Alicia Cargile.
And, of course, the rumors have been flying about their relationship in the tabloids for months. It has only been speculation until now that they were officially a couple, but Stewart's mom is making things a little more official.
Jules Stewart, Kristen's mother, told the Sunday Mirror, "What's not to be accepting about her now having a girlfriend? She's happy."
She didn't stop there with the awesome parental response to her child's new same-sex relationship. She continued, saying, "She's my daughter, I'm just her mom so she knows I would accept her choices. I've met Kristen's new girlfriend, I like her. What's not to accept? She's a lovely girl."
I like to imagine a quizzical look on her face during these responses.
The elder Stewart continued, saying, "People are good to do whatever they like as long as they're not hurting people or breaking the law… I'm accepting of people, we are all free to choose who we want to love."
She did, however, address the elephant in the room of her daughter's super-public romance with Pattinson. "They were a great couple, but she's 25 years old and I'd like to see her have a lot more life experience before she chooses someone to settle down with. I'm very sad that Kristen and Robert didn't have a chance to be alone together, they had to have the whole world with them and all the public stuff ruined everything, life became overwhelming."
OK, so we will have to take all of this with a grain of salt since it was originally published by a tabloid, but we can still hope that if Stewart and Cargile are really a couple that this is really how the actress' mother feels.
Update, June 15: It turns out the Sunday Mirror had us all fooled. Kristen Stewart's mom has just revealed to Us Weekly that those empowering quotes we thought she said, well, they are a complete sham.
"I spoke to Sharon Feinstein about my film K-11 that has been put on display in the Hollywood Museum," Jules Stewart told the mag. "It's currently there under the LGBT banner on the third floor. She also asked me about my views on gay rights, which I was happy to express. Then we talked briefly about the fundraiser I am hosting for TheWolfConnection.org. Never ever did we discuss Kristen!"
Jules went on to explain that she did briefly mention her daughter's assistant, Alicia Cargile, during the interview with The Mirror's Sharon Feinstein, but she certainly did not say Cargile and her daughter are dating.
So, what did Jules say?
When asked if she knew Cargile, Jules reportedly said, "Yes, she's a lovely girl." And that's all, folks.
Update, June 16:
Sharon Feinstein has also shared her side of the story, and posted a statement on her blog about how she is "disappointed and saddened" by Jules Stewart's claims that her interview was taken out of context.
Feinstein also took to Twitter to share a series of posts about how she intends to load the tapes of the interview with Jules, and she will be doing so for all journalists and their integrity — although that has not happened yet.
I intend to load my tape of the interview I did with Kristen Stewart's mother Jules in two clips. Watch this space— Sharon Feinstein (@sharonfeinstein) June 15, 2015
