And it led to all sorts of drama in the show and from fans, who all have their opinions about her actions already.
But despite all the tears Kaitlyn seemed to shed as a result of the incident, she is now opening up, saying she doesn't regret it.
"I don't think that's a crazy thing to sleep with somebody when you're trying to be in a relationship with them," she explained during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. "I'm a 30-year-old woman and I make my own decisions, and intimacy, to me, is part of a relationship. I don't know why everyone is so shocked by it."
We don't get it, either. Personally, when I saw the preview and the "dramatic" reveal that she has sex this season, my thoughts were, 'Don't they all? Isn't that what the fantasy suite is for?' So Kaitlyn jumped the gun a little bit; who cares? No one freaked out during last season of The Bachelor when Chris Soules took one of his ladies into his bed. And we don't know how far they went, but I'm guessing they didn't just snuggle the whole time. And how about Ben and Courtney fooling around in the ocean during Season 16? That camera also cut away before we could see everything that went down. But they got naked together, people, even if it didn't lead to a home run.
Kaitlyn said the only reason she shed so many tears was because she "felt upset that it could have jeopardized other relationships." And while we appreciate her honesty, she may have gone too far in sitting down all the guys and letting them all know she had sex with someone. For a lady who tried to "compartmentalize each relationship and be present with each guy," she sure seems to kiss and tell.
Of course, once she decided which guy she wanted to spend forever with, they could have had that talk about what she'd done on the show with other men. But until then, the guys don't need to know what she's doing on other dates, in my opinion. It's her business — and they know what they've signed up for.
But I do appreciate that Kaitlyn is talking about it openly, where past Bachelors and Bachelorettes try to act like it doesn't happen. News flash: Sex is an important part of finding a life partner.
"I'm not ashamed," Kaitlyn added. "I just regret the timing of it. But I'm also not afraid to talk about it. I don't really have a problem talking about that kind of thing. I think when you're looking for a lifetime partnership, intimacy is obviously a part of that. I think maybe I'm just the first Bachelor or Bachelorette to talk about that on TV."
