The rapper took to Twitter to absolutely blast Kendrick Lamar for comments he made to Billboard on Ferguson and race in the U.S.
“When we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us?” Lamar said in his interview with the magazine. “It starts from within. Don't start with just a rally, don't start from looting — it starts from within."
Banks clearly disagreed. She went on an absolute rant on Twitter, posting part of Lamar's quote and calling it "dumbest s*** I've ever heard a black man say." She went on to tweet multiple more times calling Lamar out hard for his views.
HOW DARE YOU open ur face to a white publication and tell them that we don't respect ourselves.... Speak for your fucking self.— AZEALIA BANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) January 9, 2015
Lol do you know about the generational effects of poverty, racism and discrimination?— AZEALIA BANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) January 9, 2015
But for those of us who follow Banks on Twitter, the fact that she's in a fight with another artist is, honestly, kind of… yawn. She's picked so many fights with so many celebs in the last few years, it's hard to take her seriously anymore or even to pay attention when it happens again. Here are some of Banks's higher-profile feuds from the last few years.
This one, we actually have to give her credit for. Eminem wrote some new lyrics about punching singer Lana Del Rey in the face, and Banks showed she definitely had her friend's back.
@LanaDelRey tell him to go back to his trailer park and eat his microwave hotpocket dinner and suck on his sisters tiddies.— AZEALIA BANKS (@AZEALIABANKS) November 11, 2014
Banks definitely started this one. After she tweeted that the rapper's wife looked like a "meth face," he fired back, tweeting, a whole lot of NSFW insults and "I WILL END YOU!!!!!"
While they were touring together, Banks started a huge feud with Rita Ora, calling her "thirsty" and "Rihanna's understudy."
In 2013, Banks accused Lady Gaga of stealing her music. She took the feud to social media, tweeting, "Make sure u let them know where u got the title for red flame from. U stole that from the demo I sent u. This one is free. Next time I'm charging." Banks's tweets have since been deleted.
Banks lashed out about Pharrell's song "ATM Jam" in another tweet that's since been deleted. Lucky for us, it lives on in retweets.
LOL RT @AZEALIABANKS The reason ATM jam did poorly is because pharell changed his mind about wanting to be associated with me— Bilal Houssami (@BilalWH) November 12, 2013
According to BET, Lil' Kim turned down a collab with Banks, sparking this rant.
“@AZEALIABANKS: Everyone knows Lil Kim doesn't write her own raps and I saw this as a faster more efficient way of getting the track done.”— UnAmerican Idol (@iAmMarcquia) May 6, 2012
In probably her nastiest online feud, Banks incited the wrath of the internet when she called pop culture blogger Perez Hilton a "messy f*****." She later tried to sort of apologize, tweeting, "A f***** is not a homosexual male. A f***** is any male who acts like a female. There's a BIG difference," and, "As a bisexual person I knew what I meant when I used that word...My most sincere apologies to anyone who was indirectly offended by my foul language." Notice she didn't apologize to Hilton.
