Fans of the adult magazine businessman will be relieved to learn that the death report was a hoax, which came from a fake version of NBC called NBCToday.co. The site reported that the mogul had been found dead in the Playboy Mansion at age 88.
The fake story was shared nearly 500,000 times on Facebook alone, and reads, "Hugh Hefner, Founder and chief creative officer of Playboy Enterprises, was found dead of natural causes Sunday morning at his home, the Playboy Mansion, in the Holmby Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles police officer Jimmy N. Gardner."
However, his wife Crystal Hefner posted a picture on her Twitter account on Sunday night which shows Hefner looking alive and well.

And shortly afterwards she posted a cryptic message about truth.
A lie can run around the world before the truth has got it's boots on. #QuoteOfTheDay— Crystal Hefner (@crystalhefner) December 29, 2014
Hefner also took to Twitter to inform fans that he was having movie night — and as far as we know you cannot tweet when you're dead!
Tonight's Mansion movie is "American Sniper."— Hugh Hefner (@hughhefner) December 29, 2014
Yes, Hefner is still kicking, but that didn't stop countless fans wondering what had happened to him, and it's not surprising because the hoax was rather detailed and even included incorrect quotes from a Los Angeles police officer.
@hughhefner I'm so sorry Mr. Hefner they made it sound so real. I'm happy you're not dead!— Spic Tits (@NotoriousBeep) December 29, 2014
It has been confirmed the Hugh Hefner isn't dead despite being very convincing.— Baz (@bazlyons) December 29, 2014
I'm going to keep believing Hugh Hefner is dead until he shows up and gives me a compelling argument that he's not. PowerPoint would help.— Matt Nedostup (@nedostup) December 29, 2014
Hugh Hefner rumored dead the same day Chelsea Handler releases another topless photo on Instagram. Coincidence? @absrdNEWS— Michael Blackman (@ParaComedian09) December 29, 2014
I got my whoops! tweet ready in case Hugh Hefner is really dead.— Katey Kaboom (@krf91) December 29, 2014
