Turns out that Rihanna is well aware of her father's struggle and has been trying her best to help him for a while now.
According to Fenty himself, not only did his pop-star daughter pay $58,000 for him to go through a Malibu rehab program, but she also flies him to LA every three months for urine tests. Even more extreme: Every time he visits, Rihanna has the minibar cleared at the hotel before his arrival. She has also apparently cut off all ties with Chris Brown and ignored him at their last meeting.
Daily Mail Online describes Rihanna's relationship with her father as "a heartbreaking bid to save Ronald Fenty."
From all outward appearances, the Diamond Ball went off without a hitch. Rihanna arrived in a gorgeous rose-colored gown, practically dripping with glitz and glam jewelry, befitting the night. The singer had a big smile on her face and was joined on the carpet by several members of her family.
The event was coordinated to raise money for her Clara Lionel Foundation charity, which was named for her grandparents. The star-studded event even included a six-minute stage introduction from Brad Pitt.
But Rihanna's father wasn't there to see any of the events of the night unfold. Though Fenty made it to the red carpet, he started drinking. He said that he tripped over a chair, which spurred security to ask him to leave. Fenty tried to object, since Rihanna had yet to arrive, but security reportedly told him, "Don't matter, man."
To make matters worse, Fenty admitted the drinking didn't stop there. When he arrived back at the hotel room, he had another couple of drinks and then fell asleep, according to his account of the night.
Though Rihanna seems to currently be working to support her father, the two have also had periods where their relationship was rocky due to her father's addiction.
"I only start[ed] drinking, once I come back here in December," Fenty, who has a thick Bajan accent, explained.
"I feel bad because I let her down because she spend all that money putting me in rehab, then find me drunk somewhere. It is not good. What can I say but I'm sorry. It's me who f***ed up."
