Julian was just 24 years old at the time of his death, and his parents, Kristoff and boxer Mia St. John, announced the sad news over the weekend, confirming that he died on Nov. 23, People magazine reports.
Mia released a heartbreaking statement about the loss of her son, who reportedly had been struggling with a lifelong battle with mental illness.
"Our son was the light of our lives, an artist with a beautiful mind and spirit. He fought long and hard against an illness for which there is no cure," Mia said in a statement to Sqor Sports.
"Unfortunately, the pain became too great for him and I dare not say he lost the battle — he simply chose to set himself free. My fight for mental health will continue. They may not find a cure in my lifetime, but we can try and prevent the loss of another beautiful soul."
Mia went on to thank, on behalf of her husband, all their fans for the love, prayers and support they have shown them. She tweeted an emotional message alongside a picture of her son and his artwork.
According to Radar Online, Julian's funeral is set to take place on Friday — the day that would have marked his 25th birthday. The service will be held in Westlake, California, after which there will be an art exhibition of his last works.
Our thoughts are with the St. John family and their friends during this sad time.
