Emma Watson and One Direction's Harry Styles were seen together at the British Fashion Awards on Monday, as Styles presented Watson with a trophy. Since then, Twitter has exploded with demands that the two become the newest power couple.
It's not that we don't love Styles or are hating on One Direction. We love them in all their boy band glory, we really do. It's just that Watson is so polished, so political, so sophisticated and so dang smart. While Styles and Watson, who have already been coined "Hemma" by the internet, are undeniably aesthetically pleasing, we're just not so sure that Styles would be able to keep up with the conversation.
Here's how we think he would react to some of Watson's most eloquent quotes.
At the UN Headquarters in September for the launch of the HeForShe campaign: "I decided I was a feminist and this seemed uncomplicated to me. But my recent research has shown that feminism has become an unpopular word."
Harry's response: We think he's saying, "I like turtles," but it's hard to tell with all the whipped cream in his mouth.
Her Twitter response to the celeb nude hacking scandal this year: "Even worse than seeing women's privacy violated on social media is reading the accompanying comments that show such a lack of empathy."
Harry's response: "What were you saying? I was just wailing on my pecs. Oh, ya... violation of privacy is such a bummer."
From her acceptance speech for the Trailblazer Award at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards: "I found that, ultimately, if you truly pour your heart into what you believe in, even if it makes you vulnerable, amazing things can and will happen."
Harry's response: "Huh?"
From her UN #HeForShe speech: "We want to try to mobilize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for change. And we don't want to just talk about it. We want to try and make sure that it's tangible."
Harry's response: "Yay! So tangible!"
A tweet about the success of #HeForShe: "Between 20th Sep & 2nd Oct there will be 1.1million #HeForShe tweets from 750K different users, reaching 1.2 BILLION unique Twitter users."
Harry's response: "My head hurts."
From her statement on becoming the UN Women's Goodwill Ambassador: "Women's rights are something so inextricably linked to who I am, so deeply personal and rooted in my life that I can't imagine an opportunity more exciting."
Harry's response: "Boom."
From her UN #HeForShe speech: "We don't often talk about men being imprisoned by gender stereotypes, but I can see that they are, and when they are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence."
Harry's response: "I couldn't agree more."
