High fives for girl power, y'all!
In a span of a week, Katy Perry has conquered the Billboard Top 200 chart with her latest album, Prism. The album sold an impressive 286,000 units in its first week of release, setting a new record for most sales in a week for 2013 by a female artist in the States!
"GOOD morning! (from TOKYO) I woke up to the news that we are #1 with the #PRISM debut & become the biggest record by a pop female this year!" Perry tweeted Wednesday night.
The female biggest-sales-week-of-the-year title was previously held by Miley Cyrus, whose album Bangerz sold an equally remarkable 270,000 units. Alas, it did not last! Prism holds the best-sales-week numbers of Perry's career thus far, doubling the numbers of her previous album, Teenage Dream.
The singer's latest album has already claimed the top spot on iTunes, and the first single, "Roar," spent a whopping 11 weeks on Billboard Hot 100 chart. Not too shabby, eh?
The only pop album presently surpassing Perry's sales is Daft Punk's latest release, Random Access Memories, which sold an incredible 339,000 units.
We can't say we're not impressed! It's refreshing to see a genre in which women can dominate comfortably and compete with one another. Have you grabbed a copy of Prism yet? What did you think?
