A How I Met Your Mother spinoff? Yes, please!

A spinoff series is in development

From SheKnows Canada
It's not over until we say so! Even though How I Met Your Mother is coming to an end, it turns out a spinoff is currently in development by the producers of the original show.

How I Met Your Mother

Look at that! Sometimes wishes really do come true!

As the inevitable conclusion to the CBS series How I Met Your Mother creeps closer and closer, fans the world over have been losing sleep and getting the nervous shakes.

What happens now? What will life be without HIMYM (as it is known in the "inner" circles)?

Well, we're here to tell you that your life doesn't really have to change after the doomsday of prime time television. No, we don't mean loop all nine seasons on your DVD player and watch them for all eternity until your brain turns into a pickle. We're talking about a real, genuine spinoff!

Oh yes! Per E! News, How I Met Your Mother's executive producers — Carter Bays and Craig Thomas — are in preliminary negotiations to create a spinoff of the show, with the help of Up All Night creator Emily Spivey.

While initial rumours hypothesized that the spinoff would focus on the mother character (portrayed by Cristin Milioti) and her life in New York City before she met Ted, it turns out that is not the case. According to new reports, the new show would focus on a brand new set of friends with a similar premise but with a female lead.

The project is titled How I Met Your Father for now, but it is in the earliest stages of development and hasn't even received the green light from the network. Sadly, loyal fans of HIMYM should not be expecting any of the original characters — Ted (Josh Radnor), Lily (Alyson Hannigan), Marshall (Jason Segel), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) — to appear in the spinoff.

What do you think? Is it better to bury HIMYM when it's all over, or to keep the fire alive with a spinoff?
