Shia LaBeouf went a bit overboard on the method acting in Fury

Kristyn Burtt is an LA-based entertainment reporter who has covered everything from 'Dancing With the Stars' to the Oscars. If she’s not on the red carpet, she’s at home in yoga pants watching Netflix and eating potato chips.

The extreme lengths Shia LaBeouf went to for his Fury role will leave you wincing

Shia LaBeouf is at it again! The temperamental actor displayed some unusual behavior on the set of his latest film, Fury. His co-stars talked about his antics to British GQ.

Logan Lerman told the men's magazine that LaBeouf slit his own face with a knife to have authentic scars. He shared, "We were in make-up and they were putting cuts on Shia and I said, 'Yeah, yeah, it looks good.' And Shia was like, 'No, it doesn't look real.'"

Is this Shia LaBeouf's latest head-scratcher?

The story continued down a rather creepy route. Lerman said, "Then he walks out into the hallway and says, 'Hey man, wanna see something fun? Check this out…' and he takes out a knife and cuts his face. And for the whole movie he kept opening these cuts on his face. That's all real."

LaBeouf consistently wore his fatigues during the shoot, both on and off the set, to keep in line with his method acting. In Fury, he plays a World War II tank crew member. He even had his dentist remove one of his bottom front teeth to complete the look.

Deranged stalker makes Shia LaBeouf fear for his life

For the Transformers star, it was truly a role he believed in. Back in May 2013, he tweeted a photo showing his missing tooth while wearing a military cap.

Fury co-star, Brad Pitt, praised the actor by saying in British GQ, "Oh, I love this boy. He's one of the best actors I've ever seen. He's full-on commitment, man. He's living it like no one else, let me tell you."

For his Lawless cast mate, Mia Wasikowska, it was a bit more difficult for her. She told HuffPost Live in 2012, "He's a very method actor and so I was on the receiving end of the method."

Fans will be able to see LaBeouf's serious on-screen commitment when Fury opens in theaters on Oct. 17.
