Speaking about the obsession to be stick-thin among young girls in recent times, Lovato spoke about how unhappy she was as a super-skinny starlet at the age of 16. She's much happier now that she has some curves, and feels comfortable being healthy, which she largely attributes to Kardashian.
"I really credit women like Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian," Lovato told Access Hollywood on Thursday. "[They] completely revolutionized what our generation's view of [the] perception of what beautiful is and I really think that they had a huge impact on that. You can think whatever you want about the Kardashians, but they really did help tons of women feel comfortable in their own skin and I like to carry that message on."
Lovato said that when all she had to look up to growing up were extremely skinny women, it was very hard to maintain that look and feel happy at the same time.
"The very first time that I ever went to the VMAs and I just looked so bony and fragile and unhappy," Lovato said. "I look back at that and I think you know what, I may have been thinner, but I am so happy that I am healthy today and have curves, which are a lot more sexier than what I was aiming for."
While sporting a healthier physique and finally feeling happier than ever with herself, Lovato is also staying busy as the new face of Sketchers Women's Footwear as well as preparing for her upcoming world tour. She will also continue sending out her message to all girls that "curves are beautiful."
