Jean Kasem has been fighting with Kasem's children over his care, and eventually took him to Washington, outside the care of his daughter Kerri. Kasem suffered from Lewy body dementia, and Kerri was finally given rights to take care of him. He died only a few days later, on June 15, 2014 — but even in death, the family is still fighting.
According to TMZ, Kerri Kasem was granted the right by a judge to have an autopsy performed on her father. But the day before that order was enforced, Jean Kasem reportedly took Casey's body from the funeral home.
The Santa Monica Police Department is reportedly conducting an investigation into Jean Kasem for elder abuse, and an autopsy may help solidify that case against her. Kerri Kasem filed the right to an autopsy in court to help preserve any evidence.
"I'm concerned about the results of any autopsy Jean Kasem may have commissioned and how they might be used," Kerri Kasem said, according to CBS News. "Consequently, I thought it would be best to ask the Washington Court to allow me to have an autopsy conducted by a forensic pathologist of my own selection."
No one seems to know where his body has gone, and TMZ also notes that Jean listed her address as Jerusalem on his death certificate.
Even though his body is missing, Kasem's three children held a memorial for him just after his death, and Julie Kasem told People, "All of his family, friends and coworkers [coming] together to remember and pay tribute to him was beautiful."
