Celebrity reporter Randy Jernigan is releasing a book called The Life and Career of Ellen DeGeneres, which will cover the couple's reportedly stormy marriage.
He told the online gossip site, "Many fans don't know that Ellen and Portia have had a very tumultuous romance since the very beginning."
The author blames the troubles on de Rossi, who allegedly has self-esteem issues.
"She loves attention because she's secretly so insecure. She also hates that her career is in the dumps," said Jernigan.
The actress is best known for her work on the '90s TV show Ally McBeal, and she most recently starred in the Netflix revival of Arrested Development. She also has an Australian comedy, Now Add Honey, coming out later in 2014.
Jernigan interviewed 13 close friends and associates for his insider exposé on the duo. Even though their marriage is rocky, he does believe there is a lot of love between the two stars.
"They both care for each other very much," he revealed, "but neither is good at the whole give-and-take aspect of a relationship."
The two celebs began dating in 2004 and got married in 2008 during the first time period that marriage equality was legal in the state of California. The passage of Proposition 8 then rendered gay marriage illegal later that year, but the courts validated all marriages that occurred before Nov. 4, 2008.
Does this spell gloom and doom for DeGeneres and de Rossi? Only time will tell, as the couple keeps their marital issues to themselves.
