Los Angeles police have moved forward with the Michael Jace murder case. The actor has been formally charged with the shooting death of his wife.

On Thursday, the former star of The Shield, Michael Jace, was formally charged with one count of murder for the shooting death of his wife, April Jace. According to CNN and preliminary autopsy results, her death was caused by "multiple gunshot wounds."

The actor appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom yesterday where bail was set at $2 million and his arraignment will be continued to June 18. If convicted, he faces up to 50 years in state prison.

The star's lawyer, Jason Sias, told CNN, "He's doing as well as somebody who is in custody. It's emotional. He wants to see this through. He's just thinking about his children."

The LAPD reported that Jace shot his wife on Monday night. He did call 911 to report the shooting as did neighbors who heard the gunshots.

A police statement revealed, "At this moment, the motive of the murder is believed to be domestic violence." There had been no earlier reports of domestic violence, according to LAPD records.

However, there are court records about domestic violence with his first wife, Jennifer Bitterman. Maria de la Vegas declared in court that she witnessed her close friend being "choked and hit" by the actor. He also "slammed her against the wall while [their infant son] screamed in his crib next to her."

Jace had also filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy in 2011 and he had recently defaulted on the south LA home that his wife lived in.

There were two children home at the time of the shooting. They've been placed with California's Department of Children and Family Services.
