Zendaya tells SheKnows that she's working on a dance project with her former Dancing With the Stars partner Val Chmerkovskiy and his brother Maks.

Achieving success outside of the Disney bubble isn't always an easy feat, but Zendaya has already begun to walk that road. Since releasing her single "Replay" off her self-titled debut album in September 2013, the triple threat has been working on a lot of projects, including one with an old friend.

SheKnows had the opportunity to chat with the starlet on the 2014 Radio Disney Music Awards red carpet on Saturday, April 26, and found out details about the collaborative project with her former Dancing With the Stars partner Val Chmerkovskiy and his brother Maks, who is currently serving as a SheKnows guest blogger.

"He brought up the opportunity to work with him on this Dance with Me thing, which is actually their studio, and they're doing this whole production and I said, 'Heck yeah,'" the 17-year-old darling told us about the upcoming project.

Zendaya says the production will involve some ballroom dancing, which she practiced during her Dancing With the Stars season. However, the Disney star said it won't be traditional ballroom dancing. "I think we're going to edge it up. He says he wants to add a little hip-hop in there, so I'm like 'OK. A little hip ballroom,'" she exclaimed. "I don’t know how you would mix those two together."

And yet, the collaborative project shouldn't come as too much of a surprise for Zendaya fans since the starlet says she looks at Val as a "big brother" and still regularly keeps in contact. "If there's anybody, it's him. When you go through something crazy like that for so long together, you establish a really close bond, so he's my big brother for life," she gushed.

Even though Zendaya didn't go home with the two Radio Disney Music awards that she was nominated for, the entertainer did take the Disney stage for a Janet Jackson-inspired performance of her hit "Replay."
