Amanda Bynes went through a well-documented public meltdown last year. The troubled star's behavior had been erratic for quite some time, but things took a turn for the worse last summer and resulted in the former child star's forcible hospitalization.
It was reported that Bynes had been suffering from schizophrenia and mental illness, but her mother Lynn Bynes would like to set the record straight.
Lynn has shut down the rumors that her daughter has suffered from mental illness and insists the Easy A actress' past troubles all boil down to one thing: the use of marijuana.
"Amanda has no mental illness whatsoever. She has never been diagnosed as schizophrenic or bipolar," her mother revealed to E! News on Wednesday.
"She is very sorry for all the hurtful tweets, statements and actions that occurred while she was under the influence of marijuana," Lynn added.
In fact, Lynn is not the only member of the Bynes family who wants to shut down these rumors. Her statement comes a day after Amanda herself released a statement to People via her attorney Tamar Arminak, who said, "... she asked me to dispel certain rumors. For the record, Amanda does not have schizophrenia, nor has she ever been diagnosed with it."
Bynes appears to be doing much better since her release from a Malibu, California, treatment facility in December, and she has since posted pictures of herself on Twitter that show a much happier and healthier person.
The constant love and support from her mother Lynn and father Rick seem to be doing the 28-year-old star a world of good, and she's even found a new passion. Bynes has enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Orange County, California, and she also recently treated fans to a birthday snapshot of herself in a bright yellow bikini.
