It's hard to stay in shape at any age, but it's even tougher in Hollywood. Valerie Bertinelli addressed her recent weight gain on The Talk on Wednesday.

It was a difficult situation for the Hot in Cleveland star because she was a spokesperson for Jenny Craig and lost about 50 pounds by 2009. However, a broken foot that she sustained while exercising three months ago led to a sedentary life again.

She told the daytime talk show hosts, "I broke my foot three months ago and I've not been able to work out."

While she was dealing with the injury, Bertinelli was also struggling with the emotional side of putting on a few pounds.

"I started thinking, 'Why do I feel so much shame? Because the cameras are on me? Because the paparazzi can't wait to get a picture of me looking like I've gained a few pounds?'" said the 53-year-old actress. "We have to take the shame out of it! It's not fair."

The former One Day at a Time star said, "I have gained a few pounds since I broke my foot, and it started to panic me at a certain point, and I thought, 'No, wait a minute. This is my body. I'm almost 54, I broke my foot, I haven't been able to move. My doctor even said, 'Do not get your heart rate up.' So I couldn't do anything. But now I'm back in the gym and I'm ready to go."

Bertinelli is planning on getting back in shape, but she wants to do it in a healthy way, both mentally and physically.

Then she summed up, to the audience's approval, "I think we all need to give each other a break. Especially women — let's leave each other alone!"
