Simon Cowell's baby-name pick is a nod to the millionaire's lineage, though is less ego-driven than many might have predicted. After previously explaining, "My number one choice is Simon because I like the name," the 54-year-old opted for the name Eric in honor of his own father.
Announcing his and girlfriend Lauren Silverman's baby has arrived, Cowell tweeted Friday, "Very happy to say Eric was born at 17.45pm. Healthy and handsome."
"Lauren [is] in great shape. Thanks for all of your kind messages," Cowell went on to tweet, then clarified their baby boy is "named after my dad."
Eric Cowell, who passed away in 1999, is obviously a man Simon admires.
"I hope that I can have the same relationship I had with my dad," the tough-as-nails talent judge said previously. "He wasn’t someone who was a great disciplinarian. We had a fun relationship. He gave me really constructive advice in my life, which I still carry today and pass on to other people. So if I can have the same relationship with my son as I had with my dad, then I think he'll be very happy and I'll be very happy."
Additionally, newborn Eric Cowell will have the opportunity to make his very own fortune.
"I'm going to leave my money to somebody. A charity, probably — kids and dogs," Cowell previously told Esquire UK. "I don't believe in passing on from one generation to another."
He went on to advise, "Your legacy has to be that hopefully you gave enough people an opportunity, so that they could do well, and you gave them your time, taught them what you know."
