Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York City apartment on Sunday morning. Widely respected as an immense talent and a kind person, Hoffman made the rounds at Sundance only two weeks ago to promote his film God's Pocket.
He was seen most recently on screen in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, a role he was set to reprise in the franchise's next two installments, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part I and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2.
It is a role Hoffman imprinted in a way that only he could.
Although it appears that the majority of filming on the remaining two films is complete, it is our understanding that the actor still had one final week of filming to finish before wrapping his work on the YA films.
Lionsgate, the studio behind The Hunger Games franchise, has not yet addressed how it will approach the remaining week's worth of filming. The studio did, however, release a statement:
"Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We're very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip's family," the studio said.
The films' anticipated release dates of Nov. 21, 2014, and Nov. 20, 2015, will reportedly not be impacted by Hoffman's death.
Less information is readily available about the fate of Happyish, Hoffman's first regular TV role. In January, Showtime picked up the dark comedy in which the actor starred as a man in his 40s trying to adapt to new bosses half his age. In the wake of Hoffman's death, Showtime released the following statement:
"Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of our generation's finest and most brilliant actors. He was also a gifted comedic talent. It was a great privilege and pleasure to work with him and we are all absolutely devastated by this sudden loss. Our thoughts go out to his family at this very difficult time," the cable network said.
