Get Your Game Face On
The Super Bowl is this weekend, and let's be honest — we're totally in it for the tight ends. Or in the case of Sunday's matchup of the Broncos vs. the Seahawks, we're all about Denver wide receiver Eric Decker and Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman. Who do you think is hotter?
Born on March 15, 1987, 26-year-old Eric Decker grew up as a three-sport, all-star athlete in baseball, basketball and football. At the University of Minnesota, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing, he continued his athletic career in baseball and football. In the 2010 NFL draft, Decker was selected by the Denver Broncos, with whom he remains today as a wide receiver.
Born on March 30, 1988, 25-year-old Richard Sherman was raised in Compton, California. The All-American athlete attended Dominguez High School, where he earned honors for football and track and field. (In 2005, he was the seventh-ranked triple jumper in the state!). He later became a football and track star at Stanford before being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011.
Eric Decker: A fourth-year wide receiver with the Broncos, Decker has impressive 2013 stats that include 87 receptions, 1,299 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has 33 career receiving scores, the most in the Broncos' franchise history through a player's first four seasons. He and teammate Demaryius Thomas are the "most prolific receiving tandem" in the league, racking up 2,718 yards. In a 2011 game against the Oakland Raiders, Decker ran the ball 90 yards to secure the third-longest punt return for a touchdown in the team's history. Decker's sports career almost went in a very different direction, though — while playing baseball in college, he was drafted into the major leagues... twice. The Milwaukee Brewers drafted Decker in 2008, and the Minnesota Twins drafted him in 2009. But ultimately, the multitalented athlete decided to pursue a career in football.
Richard Sherman: A third-year cornerback with the Seattle Seahawks, Sherman boasted 48 tackles, 8 interceptions and 16 passes defended in 2013 — the latter two of which were ranked No. 1 and No. 14 in the NFL, respectively. Due to their hard-hitting style, Sherman and the Seahawks' other defensive backs have dubbed themselves the Legion of Boom. The outspoken Sherman recently made headlines when — while in the end zone in the last few moments of the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers — he tipped a pass from Colin Kaepernick that was intended for Michael Crabtree, leading to Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith intercepting the ball and securing the team's Super Bowl spot. In college, Sherman was also a decorated track star. He was recognized by USA Today as an All-American in track after winning the state triple jump title.
Eric Decker: This piece of beefcake stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs in at 214 pounds. One glance at his shirtless Instagram pics or the way he fills out his uniform is a pretty good indication that he is fit as a fiddle.
Richard Sherman: Also 6 feet 3 inches tall, Sherman weighs in at 195 pounds — 19 less than Decker. Still, we aren't complaining about the way No. 25 looks when he's decked out in his form-fitting, second-skin uniform.
Eric Decker: This softhearted footballer and his wife founded Deckers Dogs, a charity that helps raise funds for the rescue, care and training of service dogs for military veterans returning home with disabilities.
Richard Sherman: Decker isn't the only one with a big heart! Sherman created Blanket Coverage: The Richard Sherman Family Foundation to help ensure that as many kids as possible have adequate school supplies and clothes.
Eric Decker: Definitely an animal lover, Decker has a bunch of precious pups. (Three? Four? We've lost count.)
Richard Sherman: As far as we know, Sherman doesn't have any pets yet.
Eric Decker: The wide receiver attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business and marketing.
Richard Sherman: In addition to being the salutatorian of his high school class, this brainy cornerback graduated from Stanford in 2010 with a bachelor's in communication. He later returned to begin a master's degree program.
Eric Decker: On June 22, 2013, Decker married country singer Jessie James. In September, the couple took to Twitter to announce they were expecting their first child. In November, they revealed they were going to have a little girl.
Richard Sherman: Sherman is reportedly dating Ashley Lillian Moss, although not much is known about the pretty 25-year-old from Washington. Social media photos suggest the couple may have been together since 2012.
