Stiller: Directing Love Scenes Is "Weird"

Ben Stiller has enjoyed a successful acting and directing career, but one thing the star still finds awkward is directing sex scenes.

Ben Stiller battled to direct sex scenes

Ben Stiller may be embracing his newfound freedom behind the camera, but one thing he is not so comfortable with is directing intimate scenes.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty actor has been acting and directing for several years now, but he recently hinted he could be throwing in the towel on his acting career and pursuing directing full time. However, if that is the case, the star will have to get over his fear of shooting sex scenes.

Stiller was a part of the production for the 1994 romantic comedy Reality Bites, which stars Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke, and he admits that giving them direction during their love scenes proved to be quite challenging.

Stiller revealed to Empire magazine, "I had to direct a love scene with Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke in Reality Bites. I hadn't done a lot of love scenes as a director. That was weird."

And even though the Tropic Thunder actor knew both stars before the film, that didn't make it easier. He admitted, though, that he was not really needed. "I knew them both, but they took care of it... they did well on their own," he said.

Stiller has enjoyed a successful career in acting, with his focus mainly on comedy, but what was it that inspired him to become an actor initially? Apparently, it was the blockbuster shark film Jaws by critically acclaimed director Steven Spielberg.

Stiller revealed, "I have to say the biggest influence for me is probably Jaws. I saw it when I was 10 years old when it came out in 1975. I just think it's the perfect movie, one of the best ever."

"When you look at it in terms of what's going on on the screen, it's very simple stuff, not a lot of crazy action, but those characters and that situation and the filmmaking are amazing."
