Nigella Lawson's 2013 could have gone better, and she is looking forward to 2014. The celebrity chef went through a trial with two of her assistants, as well as a divorce from her husband, media mogul Charles Saatchi. But Lawson is working on becoming the woman she wants to be.

The trial accused two of Lawson's former assistants of fraudulently using Saatchi's company credit card, to the tune of more than $1 million. The two women claimed the money was given to them in return for their silence about Lawson's drug use.

Between the personal information that came out in that trial and the divorce between Lawson and Saatchi, the chef felt like her life was news across the world.

"To not only have your private life, but distortions of your private life, put on display is mortifying," she told Good Morning America Thursday morning, Jan. 2. "But there are people going through a lot worse, and to dwell in any of it would be self-pity, and I don't like to do that."

The two assistants were cleared of any crime late in December.

Although it was claimed that Lawson had used cocaine in the past, she has a new preferred substance: Chocolate.

"My only desire was to protect my children as much as possible, which wasn't always possible," she explained of the trial and divorce proceedings. "Since then I've eaten a lot of chocolate, had a very good Christmas and now I'm into the new year."
