The 100th Episode Celebrates The Past
It's the 100th episode of The Vampire Diaries, so you know it's gonna be good! It's a look at the past through the bad deeds of Katherine Pierce.
The return of The Vampire Diaries will mark a milestone in the show: The 100th episode. It will focus on none other than 500-year-old vampire Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev). As she lay dying, her body wasting away after becoming human again, the gang will reminisce on the past and Katherine's dirty deeds. She is, after all, responsible for Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley), Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Caroline's (Candice Accola) deaths in their varying forms.
Who will wreak havoc and destruction on the group, all while including snarky jabs along the way, if she dies?
There's a chance we might not have to find out. Nadia is, after all, on a mission to save Katherine with the traveler's spell, but there's no telling if she'll be successful in time. Needless to say, it's going to be a couch-gripping episode!
We can't help but wonder if this beautiful moment on the show, celebrating Katherine's life in all its thrilling and lonely glory, is only spelling the end for the witty doppelganger. Season 5, after all, has been about wrapping up the doppelganger story line thus far. Silas and Amara both met their supernatural ends. It only seems fitting that Katherine's time would also be coming to a close.
Still, after seasons of thinking she's more harm than good on the show, the past few episodes have served to drastically alter our opinion of Katherine. Plus, her scene with Stefan in the safe was one of the steamiest things we've seen in television. Dobrev may be back with her former flame Somerhalder, but that doesn't stop her from having some mad chemistry with Wesley. It would be a shame to see that story line end just when it's beginning.
But for Katherine, this season has been about forgiveness. We as an audience have forgiven her. Stefan is close to forgiving her. Maybe this episode will be about the rest of the gang finding it in their hearts to forgive as well. We think Katherine would be satisfied with going out on that note. As long as it also includes a few of her signature, judgmental jabs.
The Vampire Diaries returns Thursday, Jan. 23, on The CW.
Do you think Katherine will survive the episode?
