Nominations for the biggest night in music

The Grammy nominations have been announced, and hip-hop, country and pop rule the world of music.

LL Cool J

The 2014 Grammy nominations were announced Friday night, Dec. 6, during a live concert on CBS, hosted by LL Cool J. Jay Z took home nine nominations, with Kendrick LamarJustin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Pharrell all grabbing seven. Drake and Daft Punk came away with five nominations.

Who runs the world? Beyoncé and Jay Z do >>

The biggest shock of the night may have been James Blake. The fairly unknown artist may have been the tiebreaker who knocked Lorde out of contention for Best New Artist. However, she was nominated for Song and Record of the Year, as were Imagine Dragons (who were also in contention for the coveted Best New Artist Grammy).

Kanye West and Robin Thicke only came away with two nominations each, which we will likely hear about sometime in the near future from Yeezus himself.

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards will be held Sunday, Jan. 26, on CBS.
