The Fanged Edition
Parks and Recreation actress and comedian Mara Marini puts The Vampire Diaries' main men head-to-head in our weekly debate and asks you to decide: Who's hotter?
Mr. Piercing Green Eyes was born Paul Thomas Wasilewski to Polish parents in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He changed his last name in 2005 to "Wesley" as it's easier to pronounce and he claims that it really helped his career. He's best known for his role as Stefan Salvatore on The CW's The Vampire Diaries.
Mr. Steely Blue Eyes was born Ian Joseph Somerhalder in Covington, Louisiana, to a massage therapist mother and a building contractor father. The heartthrob is a very hard worker and also heavily involved with charities. He's best known for his role of Boone Carlyle on Lost and as Damon Salvatore, Stefan's older brother, on The Vampire Diaries.
Paul Wesley: He had a number of guest-starring roles and recurred on Guiding Light, American Dreams, Everwood and Army Wives, to name just a few. He won the category of Breakout Star, Male at the Teen Choice Awards in 2010 and actually initially auditioned for Ian's role, Damon Salvatore.
Ian Somerhalder: Before Ian graced Mystic Falls with his presence, he played a passionate bisexual in the film The Rules of Attraction; an immature plane-crash survivor on the television show Lost and a deadly assassin in the feature The Tournament. He has a long list of credits and awards to his name.
Paul Wesley: He got kicked out of private school and claims he's a reformed bad boy. He works a lot and tries to get seven hours of sleep a night. He's also big into meditation.
Ian Somerhalder: A self-proclaimed sports freak, he spends his vacations playing baseball and football, and horseback riding. He loves yoga and was raised on a healthy, organic diet which he maintains to this day.
Paul Wesley: He lifts weights three times a week and runs twice a week. He also eats protein every three hours to keep his 165 year-old vampire body in check.
Ian Somerhalder: The blue-eyed hottie has an intense regimen consisting of burpees, body planks, push-ups and squat jumps. He also adds cardio to keep from bulking up. Although he isn't a vegetarian, he's strongly against animal cruelty and factory farms. He also avoids junk food to keep his svelte physique.
Paul Wesley: He donates to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Humane Society. He's apparently very nice to his fans and even kind to the paparazzi.
Ian Somerhalder: Gorgeous and a philanthropist, Ian is heavily involved with the St. Tammany Humane Society, the It Gets Better Project (which works to prevent suicide among LGBT youth) and has even created the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, which educates people on protecting animals and the environment.
Paul Wesley: No pets currently, but he loves animals and his favorite are dolphins.
Ian Somerhalder: He apparently has several rescue cats and just brought home a rescue dog, Nietzsche, in August.
Paul Wesley: He went to a private Catholic all-boys school and speaks Polish fluently. He started college at Rutger's University, but left after one semester to pursue acting full time.
Ian Somerhalder: Like his on-screen brother, he also attended private Catholic school… but unlike Paul, Ian didn't get kicked out. He went on to pursue acting right after high school, after having modeled throughout his teens.
Paul Wesley: He had one girlfriend all through high school. He dated his wife (they just filed for divorce in July), since they met in 2007. He's currently going through a divorce after having been married for two years.
Ian Somerhalder: Prior to dating his vampire co-star, he had about seven girlfriends throughout his life. He dated Nina Dobrev from September 2011 until May of this year.
