Time-Traveling Turkeys On A Mission
What happens when a couple of turkeys decide to go back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get turkey off the menu? A gobble-gobble-good time! With the voices of Amy Poehler, Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, this animated film in 2-D and 3-D is perfect for the holidays.
The first recorded Thanksgiving celebration took place in 1621, in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Puritans and pilgrims came from England, bringing with them the tradition of having days of fasting and days of thanksgiving.
Turkeys are indigenous to North America and, to the Europeans, they looked similar to the guinea-fowl, or Turkey-fowl as the bird was commonly called because it was imported through the country of Turkey. The name stuck and we still love turkey today.
In the movie Free Birds, Owen Wilson voices the character of Reggie, a pizza-loving turkey who was officially pardoned by the President of the United States. He enjoys his life at Camp David until he’s turkey-napped by Jake, voiced by Woody Harrelson, the leader of the Turkey Liberation Front.
Once Reggie and Jake hijack an experimental, government time machine, they go back to 17th century Massachusetts. It’s there Reggie meets Jenny, voiced by Amy Poehler, a nurturing and brave turkey hen who becomes his love interest.
Free Birds is brought to you by Relativity Media and Reel FX, and opens in movie theaters on Nov. 1.
