The Competition Is Fierce

Kendrick Lamar is the reigning king of the BET Hip Hop Awards. The Compton, California, rapper has scored 14 nominations for the 2013 ceremony, surpassing all his peers.

Kendrick Lamar is having a great summer. Shortly after releasing his groundbreaking verse on Big Sean's "Control," he's become the BET Hip Hop Awards biggest contender. Thursday, the nominees were announced and Lamar led the pack with 14 nods.

Coming in second is Drake with 13 nominations, and J. Cole with 10. Thanks to Lamar's 2012 album good kid, m.A.A.d city and countless collaborations, he'll be the one to beat.
