Jewel takes a break from her Greatest Hits tour to chat with SheKnows as our Girl Crush of the Month.
Odds are you probably spent some part of your dating history crying your eyes out to a Jewel song.
Now, 20 years after her wildly successful debut album Pieces of You, Jewel is bringing back those popular love songs on her Greatest Hits tour. While in Los Angeles recently, the folksy songstress took a break from her busy schedule to sit down with SheKnows and fill us in on her life.
Jewel, who married pro rodeo cowboy Ty Murray in 2008, is currently crossing the country with their son, Kase, and loving every minute of it. She told us that, although things are busier now that she’s a mom, she’s still focused on her career and excited to see where the road will take her next. From recounting her adventurous youth to teaching us to yodel, our Girl Crush of the Month gets incredibly candid.

Jewel: Tristan Prettyman. She's so beautiful. She came to my show. She’s a great singer/song writer and she showed up and she was just lovely, girl crush, rad.
J: It was probably a children’s song. It was the Soul Train "Choo Choo Song".
J: Probably the Bahamas, on a boat, very peaceful.
J: Probably writing.
J: I kind of see them as all the same, because it’s writing songs. So it’s really hard to distinguish, but my heart is probably folk and country.
SK: What is one weird fact that people might not know about you?
J: I can move every muscle on my face... do I have to show you?!
J: Hard wood grows slow, which doesn’t sound like a very glamorous slogan. But to me it means you have to have patience and the right things take a long time to build. Things that grow too quickly often fall over. So if you want to build a career or a relationship, you have to do it the right way.
J: It’s hard. It’s like kids, you don’t want to have a favorite. I’m most sentimental about “Who Will Save Your Soul" probably, just because it’s one of the first songs I ever wrote and it's the one that really changed my life.
