My name is Linda Brown and I am a water safety advocate as well the author of 'Water Safe! Water Smart! Staying alive under five and then some". In 1982, I nearly lost my son to a drowning. In the years since, I have made the commitment to teach young children to swim. In addition, following my father's demise to Melanoma skin cancer in 2000, I went on to produce my own Water Safety & Rescue course. It was with the culmination of my own emotional experience in my son's near drowning, and the lessons I learned through teaching children, and finally the reality of Melanoma and the effects of the sun, that I decided to put these lessons into writing, in the hopes that if I can just save one person from the fate of my father or loss of an innocent life to a water emergency, than just maybe I can forgive myself for my own lack of vigilance as a young mother, one February morning so long ago. Check out my website at: watersafewatersmart.com to learn more about what inspired me to swim in this direction!
Please keep in mind too, that although summer's end is near, that is no reason to put away the sun screen. Just like brushing your teeth every morning and night, sun screen should be worn year round. Make sure it contains AVOBENZONE and broad spectrum UVA/UVB rays. Don't forget Helioplex either. This newer ingredient works as a booster to Avobenzone (or also known as Parsol). Avobenzone is the only ingredient that protects against Melanoma skin cancer, which I might add, is the most deadly of skin cancers.
We will discuss more on sun screen and who is more likely at risk for this cancer tomorrow. Until then, enjoy another beautiful summer day!
