National “Take Your Dog to Work Day” is right around the corner! On Friday, June 23rd, pups across America will get the chance to join their humans at the office and work their tails off! If your workplace will be celebrating this year, take hints from these eleven companies who have mastered the art of a dog-friendly workspace.
Pets Best Insurance
Every day is “Take Your Dog to Work” day at the Pets Best office in Boise, Idaho! For over a decade, this leading pet insurance company has been providing dog and cat owners across the country with some of the most comprehensive and flexible insurance policies available. Best known for their personalized customer service and speedy reimbursements, Pets Best also contracts with employers of all sizes, and from a variety of industries to provide pet insurance as a unique employee benefit as well! On any given day, dozens of dogs and cats can be found roaming their office, lounging on any of the pet beds throughout, enjoying treats or simply making everyone who is busy working away smile!
Prime Five Homes
Prime Five Homes is a real estate development company based in Los Angeles, California. They specialize in building eco-friendly homes, modern design, and affordable luxury renovations. Their office space has plenty of toys and dog beds available for their pups to play with. They have a playpen for the dogs to play in during meetings and a fenced back yard. The dogs are given free range of the office and everyone pitches in to walk and care for the dogs. Some people bring dogs in every day, while others only bring them sometimes.
Known for their love of pets and their products that clean up pet messes, it’s no surprise that Bissell encourages dogs in their workspaces. Employees can bring their dogs (and cats) into the Pet Spot, an area designed especially for pets. Their office also features a wide array of dog treats, water bowels, and clean up stations. Walking paths are available throughout and around the building so the pups can get enough exercise with their owners. They also occasionally have treats like doggy ice cream!
The leading pet travel and safety brand, Kurgo, is no doubt behind protecting pets and their owners who may be literally “taking their dog to work” safely this week! But aside from protecting every traveling pup with hundreds of products, Kurgo might also have the most pet-friendly office design EVER! Workers have their own little pens with grassy turf, there’s a shower to wash your dog, meeting spaces have chairs at perfect dog-patting height and width, and open spaces allow the dogs to roam freely throughout this cool office space! There are plenty of toys for dogs to play with, which helps with product-testing as well! Oh, and there’s a special Dog Slide. If you love dogs, quit your job and send your resume to Kurgo ASAP! FreshBooks is a cloud accounting company designed for self-employed small business owners and their teams. On any given day there are around 20 dogs in the FreshBooks office. They have a volunteer dog committee responsible for setting boundaries and enforcing rules for dogs and their owners. Their office has treats and cleaning supplies throughout to reward the pooches and clean up any accidents. Employees can walk their dogs at nearby walking trails at lunch or after work.
Orvis has been a trusted source of discovery and adventure gear since 1856. They have gear and clothing for men and women as well as supplies for hunting and fishing. The Orvis headquarters in Vermont implemented a bring your dog to work program. Thirty employees have since signed up and 35 dogs filter in and out of the office. Outside of the main office is a huge grassy area with a pond where people hang out with their dogs.
Planet Dog is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, and their offices have been pet-friendly since day one! Their office has a fenced-in dog park that’s perfect for playing with and walking the office dogs. Planet Dog offers an extensive line of ultra-durable, eco-friendly and Made in the USA dog toys, which obviously their office pups love to test and play with all day as well! The employees of Planet Dog know the stress relieving benefits of having dogs in the workspace, and take full advantage of this dog-friendly office. Dogs are even allowed in meetings!
The Humane Society of the United States
The Humane Society of the United States is the nation’s largest and animal protection program. It’s no surprise that they encourage dogs in the workplace. Their pet-friendly program was established in 2007 and hundreds of pets and owners have participated. Currently they have more than 160 pets, mostly dogs, participating. Many of the offices nationwide have pet-friendly aspects. Dogs are welcome in meetings but they also have dog free rooms. At the Gaithersburg office, they have a dog park complete with agility equipment. They also do holiday gift exchanges for the pets.
FTD Companies, Inc.
FTD Companies, Inc. is floral and gifting company that manages ProFlowers, Shari’s Berries, Personal Creations, and FTD. The San Diego office welcomes pets every day of the week. Their office has outdoor grassy areas where the dogs can play. The company also supports local San Diego pet shelters. They started a program called Walk-A-Pup. During peak floral times (like Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day) they bring in rescue dogs that the employees can play with and walk.
NHV Natural Pet Products
NHV offers natural, vegetarian supplements and vitamins for cats, dogs, and small animals. They encourage their employees to bring dogs to the office. They also have rescue pets that they all care for in their office. They consider pets to be a great way to reduce stress and encourage productivity for their employees. They also have an outdoors space with bird feeders, a koi pond, and a garden that everyone in the office tends to.
Forest Giant is software company that creates solutions for the Internet of Things, experimental design, and enterprise and consumer apps. Their office has a full-time dog, Fox, who supervises and keeps the employees company. Two other dogs visit the office occasionally too. The open floor plan in their workspace makes it easy for the dogs to navigate and always know what’s going on. They have plenty of toys and couches for the pups to sleep on. The dogs are welcome in their meetings as well.
