Writing Day 1

Today is very important. Today I will be starting towards a goal of daily writing. Not a journal dialogue but an actual novel.

As the parent of tween girl, I have become oncreasingly aware that there is a limited number of age appropriate books that don't involve a romantic interest.  As women we always say we don't need a guy but we are inundated with it daily. Even in music.

Are house is currently filled with the sounds of Meghan Trainor and Cyndi Lauper. But even these songs point to the desire to be accepted. Don't get me wrong, I love them both. I think that are great songs and they have a much better message than what my daughter could be listening to.

How much money do women spend on an average wedding? How does that compare to college craduation parties?

I did some research to find out... Apparently the average wedding cost in the United States is $25,200. Couples typically spend between $18,900 and $31,500 but, most couples spend less than $10,000. This does not include cost for a honeymoon either.  Our wedding was substantially less.

When I googled how much people spent on graduation parties, I found many people balked at the idea of spending more than $500. Why is it that we spend $10,000 to celebrated a relationship but only $500 to celebrate an accomplishment.

This all culminates into the reason I want to write a series of novel directed at tween and teen girls that make it ok to be single. Girls should be focused on what they want to be when they grow up. When do we stop dreaming about being astronauts and scientists and become happy with a secretary position because it has benefits?  When do we stop dreaming about changing the world?

I am 33. A mother. A wife. A teacher. An artist. A singer. A storyteller. A writer. A computer tech. An adventurer. A traveler. A gourmet chef. A seamstress. An actress. A historian. A costume designer.

When did these become mutually exclusive? I don't think they have!
