While Harry Potter fans are mourning the end of the HP movie series this week with the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2, I think we also ought to be thankful we got to experience it, and the books, in the first place. And even more thankful for our kids. How wonderful that the movie cast has stayed together so long (10 years), and that the author wrote 7 books (and 3 supplements) since 1997, allowing so many of today's kids to be a part of something so creatively amazing! They can say, "We were there!" to their kids someday. What great books to share, what great movie magic, what great memories.
Harry and company have definitely given my family some unforgettable experiences. (To read about some of the things we've done, check out http://uncoolmom.com/2011/07/13/pottermania-what-a-fun-ticket-to-ride-its-been.aspx)
If your own kids are fans, help them relish in every Potter moment this week-- have a DVD-watching marathon of past HP movies, watch the cast as they appear on TV talk shows, take lots of pictures if your kids go to the premiere (especially if they wear a costume), and raise a glass of "butter beer" (one recipe for it is at http://www.mugglenet.com/misc/rosmertas/butterbeer.shtml).
Here's to the past 14 years of fun and excitement!
