My original thought was that kindergarten was going to be cheaper than daycare. I was wrong. It turns out that by the time you add in all of the extra expenses that I didn't know or thought about, it comes out even.
I've already paid for the school supplies so hopefully that will be a one time expense for the year, but I highly doubt it. I already got a note saying that when they become available I need to bring in a box of mini candy canes. (For what, I couldn't tell you). I'm starting to dread looking in my daughter's take home folder from school.
Another note was about "Spirit Day". On those days, the kids can wear a t-shirt with the school's logo on it. I was going to buy one shirt for spirit day, but it is a good thing that I waited. I got another note saying that this year is the school's 50th anniversary and they are celebrating by wearing 50th anniversary t-shirts on spirit day. Only these t-shirts will be allowed on spirit days. I think this is a pretty low move by the school. These t-shirs cost twice as much as the regular shirts. The only saving grace is that all of the proceeds are going to a school in Uganda. The rebel mom in me is saying "Don't buy the shirt." But the nice mom is saying "It will be weird for your child if she is the only one not wearing the shirt on spirit day". Ok nice mom wins, this time.
