Just another testament to the fact that you never know how your choices can influence the life of another. Check out the video below of Whoopi Goldberg meeting a very special fan:
I just want to hug them both!
When you're a person with autism, having a forum that you're comfortable in, a social forum where you can interact freely with like-minded people - well, it's just an amazing and empowering thing.
As a lifelong geek and Trekker, it just reaffirms my belief in the power of all of us to make a better, brighter world by reaching for a future where we're all open to the differences that make us human.
This is what I want for my son. For all our sons - and daughters.
Autism is part of who he is, and who he is can be part of who we all are.
It starts with something small, like a shared interaction on the playground, or letting someone eat lunch at your table. Then it grows to something bigger, like joining a club or playing a sport. All those things lead to friends, and things to do and extended families. And those things lead to a full and rich life.
And I want my son to go there, boldly.
