Vacation Madness

Monday morning our family is leaving for a vacation in Disneyworld.  There are 10 of us going in all, as it's my husband's entire family.  My young boys do not yet know they are even going on vacation, and the anticipation is KILLING ME!!!!

It has been so hard to keep this secret.  Their teenage cousins know we're going, so we were sure someone would slip up.  My kids know we WANT to do a trip like this sometime in the next year or two, and that is all that has saved us.  Whenever their Pappa has slipped up, they thought he was talking about it in the future sometime.  I have been very careful that they not see us do anything unusual.  I'm doing laundry this weekend, and will just gather the clothes I need in one basket, the rest in another.  Saturday I'm taking the kids to back to back birthday parties alone so Dad can do the preparation he needs to do without the kids seeing.  Sunday he's taking them out just the 3 of them so I can pull out the suitcases, fill them, and put them away again before they get home.  Monday morning all we have to do is wake them up, dress them and let them pack toys and games in their backpack for the flight and we're off.

The image in my head of waking my sleeping angels at 4:30am, wearing Mickey ears with the video camera rolling, is so exciting I can't concentrate on anything else.  A co-worker today came up with the idea to design and print a banner to hold up for them announcing we're going to Disney World as well, and she's designing somethign awful right now.  My stomach is doing flip flops in anticipation.

While preparing for a vacation with kids could be an Olympic event to test an athlete's skills, patience, and above all endurance, the end result is so worth it.  Preparing for one in secret is twice as hard, and could be the finals.  But that moment, when it dawns on their sleep fogged minds what we are telling them, will be priceless.  This is motherhood.  These moments.  When you can give your kids a gift like this, an experience like this, together as a family.  It makes all the other moments, the not so fun moments of parenting, fly from your memory.

We are Disney bound, and it will be a magical ride!!!!
