swim team meet

I signed Charlie up for Learn to Swim class with the local swim team. It was the best deal I could find and convenient. I wanted Charlie to have a “refresher” course on swimming basics since he hadn’t been in the pool since last summer. Mucho gracias to Kelly for telling me about the Quail Valley Dolphins swim team and LST classes!

I asked Charlie if he wanted to join the swim team and the answer was a resounding NO.  However, once Charlie had swum the length of the pool his swim teacher told him he now was a member of the QV Dolphin swim team! Talk about a deer in the headlights look!

My son is in love with being on the swim team. He’s already asked to join next year.

I am soooo proud of Charlie and how well he has done in the meets. Charlie is in the 7-8 year old boys group, competing against boys who have been on a swim team since they were 4 or 5 years old. At his very first meet Charlie was scheduled to swim the Individual Back stroke, despite having absolutely no clue how to do that stroke. Charlie bravely jumped in and gave it a go! He only got about 4 feet out or so before coming back in but at least he tried.

There is only 1 more swim meet left in the season. Charlie has learned the backstroke and the freestyle/crawl. Coach Patrick started teaching Charlie the breast stroke at this mornings practice. I am planning on finding some stroke classes during the fall and spring so Charlie can learn the remaining to strokes, breast and butterfly.  Next year Charlie will move up to the 9-10 year old boys group and I don’t want him to be behind.

Charlie has improved his times quite a bit in the past 6 weeks. I am so freakin’ stinkin’ proud of him!
