A New Year, A New You
On January 1st of each year, every single person in the entire world wakes up to a clean slate, a fresh start, and a new try at accomplishing goals. Some goals may have rolled over from last year and some are new.
Everyone has different resolutions, baby steps that need to be completed for them to reach their higher goal….happiness. For some, this includes weight loss, landing a better job, finding that perfect someone to call your soul mate, or having children.
Resolutions are great if you have the drive, determination, and time. But sometimes life comes at you fast and all your New Year’s resolutions get lost in the dust.
Instead of concentrating and trying to change what you don’t have, concentrate on what you do have and the good all around you. Here are 5 easy New Year’s resolutions that can all be completed in one day, not 365! I guarantee you will feel as good as gold, accomplished, grateful, and of course, happy.
Resolution 1) Pay It Forward: Most resolutions are always tailored to you, something better for you or an improvement to you. This year, do something nice for someone else. This can include donating old clothes, going grocery shopping for your grandparents, volunteering at a local animal shelter or anywhere else in your community. Gratitude and happiness is a two-way street. You can’t get it until you give it. Giving the gift of your time to anyone will make you feel so good about yourself and beautiful on the inside and out.
Resolution 2) Be Grateful For What You Have: It’s so much easier to say I want a new this, I really need that, or I’ll be happy when I get _____. What you should be saying is, I’m so grateful for this, and I can’t imagine my life without that. Taking things for granted in life is not only easy, but most of the time, we don’t even realize how much we are doing it. The idea of this resolution is to just be as grateful as you can for each and everything around you. Say thank you for you and your family’s safety and health, the food you eat, the clean water you drink, the clothes you wear, your car, your job, the beautiful day, and life in general. Say thank you for each and every one of those things today. After all, where would you be without them?
Resolution 3) Plant a Tree: Mother Nature gives us so much. Life would not exist without the sun, rain, soil, and so on. Think of all the billions of crops we pull each year from the earth. Would it hurt to put one back? For this resolution, plant something in your back yard. It can be your favorite flower, vegetable, fruit, or any other plant you like. By planting something into our earth, you are giving back to the world even though it doesn’t seem that way. Use it also as a symbolism. A new plant for the New Year. Let it flourish with you.
Resolution 4) Be Friendly: It’s so easy to smile and say hello. This little gesture can change someone’s life. Life can get the best of all us at times, but when you’re in public try to make it an even playing field. Don’t take your bad day out on someone. Instead, for this resolution, I want you to say hello and smile to each and every person you come in contact with today. As you do it, you will see your smile spread to the person you said hello to. They will then be able to make someone else smile because they are smiling. Everyone knows smiles are contagious.
Resolution 5) Accept Kindness and Giving Into Your Life: This sounds like a no brainer. When someone wants to be nice or give something to you, why would you say no? The truth is, most of us do. It can be hard to allow another person to give you something without feeling guilty, feeling like the other person may sympathize for you, or feeling like there maybe an ulterior motive behind the kind gesture. For this last resolution, I want you to accept any and all kind gestures today with a smiling “Thank You”. Remember, gratitude and happiness is a two-way street. You have to be able to give and accept it.
