My daughter, almost one, was born with clubfeet. It is funny how we learn to adapt and nature takes over. During month three and four she had to wear her medical shoes and bar 23 hours a day. This did not stop her from learning to roll over. Nature told her it is time and she learned how to roll with the bar and shoes.
I am so proud of her everytime she hits a milestone. Her current fascination is stairs. After month four she only has to wear her special shoes at night. Today it was raining so to help her burn some energy I let her climb the stairs. When we get to the top she normally keeps going up and down the hallway. We have a step to get up to the hallway. Today she hung around the edge of the hallway and the platform for the steps. I wanted to see what she would do. She kept coming back and looking down and I could see the wheels in her mind churning. She was trying to decide how to come back down. After a few seconds and my supervision. She figured out how to get down the stairs. It was like nature said this is what you do.
We don't have a walker yet but it is coming! She has started learning to cruise along furniture but she knows she can crawl a lot faster so she is sticking with crawling for now. One day we will wake up and nature will have told her....it is time to walk!
