So...There I am perusing the aisles of books at the local discount store, Ollie's, and I spot the words "Eleanor the Hippo" mixed in a pile of kids' books.
I should state first that I have a small fascination for hippos. I should also state that I have a small fascination for childrens' books.
I think my fingers tingled a little as I reached for the small hardback book, and slid it from the haphazard pile and when I got my first full look my heart gave a little jig of childish glee. The full title of the book is Eleanor the Hippo Learns to Tell the Truth, and it's written and illustrated by Andy McGuire. Written in rhyme no less. It's the little things like this that really make my happy-meter flip from meh to woohoo! in short order.
I added the book to my growing pile and headed off to the checkout. As soon as I got home, I read it. And then I flipped back through it slowly to look at the adorable pictures. I read it again today after I started typing this blog post. The story is cute, the pictures are cuter. I think this would be a wonderful addition for any mother, or father, or grandparent's bedtime story library. It would be wonderful for teachers and people such as myself who just adore the sweetness of a good childrens' book.
