My tween learned about vibrators at BlogHer13

I brought my daughter to the 2013 BlogHer confernece with me.  She had her very own full conference student pass.

She also attended last year in NYC with me.  She's 12-years-old, but is still very "little girl."  She still loves stuffed animals, pretend play and holding my hand in public.

We have a great relationship.  I have patted myself in the back with pride for answering her sex questions for years.

"What's a condom?"

"What is oral sex?"

"Do you and Dad ever have sex?"

"Why would anyone want to do that?"

And so on.

I don't sweat it.  I don't lie or gloss over it.  I tell her the truth.

However, I wasn't prepared for the huge line of ladies lined up to spin Trojan's big 'ol wheel of pleasure.

"No, sweetie, we're not going to wait in that long line.  That's grown up swag."

"What is it?"

"Well, it's a sex thing."

"But what do you do with it?"

"Well, it's for giving back massages."

"Wow, Momma.  Those ladies must all have really sore backs."

It's the first time I haven't gone there with my answer to her sex question and I it took me a few days to figure out why.  I've answered all of her questions factually, but they have been procedural questions.  We've never talked about the pleasure side of it.

She recently started middle school and will be a teenager before the year is up.

I'm sure the opportunity to correct my lame explanation will present itself before too long.

Thanks Trojan and BlogHer for giving me one of those parenting moments you just have to shake your head and laugh at yourself over.

Has your child stumped you with a sex question?

First world problems: Vibrator edition

Update:  And now I've been informed they were giving away lube, not vibrators.  They were handing out vibes last year, which I was able to snag because I stuck her in childcare at the hotel.  Lube would have been much easier to explain as simply "lotion"!
